Overheard at the breakfast table this morning...
Sara: No it's not
Cyara: How do you know?
Sara: The chick is only in there if the rooster salts the egg.
Cyara: Are you sure?
Sara: Yep, I know that is what happens. I learned it in first grade.
Begs the question...kosher salt, sea salt, regular table salt??? Inquiring minds want to know! (I did ask the question, but she didn't know.)

Snow pants

I love snow pants! Actually I've never worn them, but aren't they awesome! I didn't always feel this way about snow pants. When Sara was entering kindergarten I got her school supply list and was excitedly making my list before I did the Walmart run for the first time as a parent of a school-aged child. I think I was more excited then Sara. Anyway, I was writing...markers, 2 packs of crayons, 2 glue sticks, 2 boxes of Kleenexes, snow pants. WAIT! What was that? Snow pants on a school list. My thought...seriously, are they really necessary?? I never wore snow pants. If long underwear and two pairs of jeans were good enough for me, my five year can certainly survive the winter without snow pants. However, I trekked to the store when fall hit and very grudgingly bought my family's first pair of snow pants. Come to find out they ban any children from playing in the snow on the playground if they don't wear snow pants. (wimps I say, wimps!) So when it snowed (which it did quite a bit in Iowa--where we lived at the time) I packed her up in them and sent her off to school. Then came the day that there was a snow day and I sent the kids out to play at home. WOW! They are the greatest invention ever. She was totally dry and stayed completely warm. And no more layer upon layer upon layer of clothing to the point that you can barely move. What a novel idea--actually being able to walk out the door when you go out to play in the winter. So from then on I've been sold on the idea of snow pants to the point that I freak out when they get in the snow without them. I'm afraid I've turned them into wimps, but I still love snow pants.
My guys
What a better way to spend a snowy afternoon than snuggling on the couch

Note to self...
(P.S. I put Nathan on the task and he found them before bed. That child may become one of the world's greatest detectives.)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
I had to include this picture. It is such a classic Ashley expression and I think it is the first time I've gotten it on camera. Definitely one of my favorites...

A sure sign....
joking John
John: What do you get a gorilla for his birthday?
Mom: I don't know.
John: I don't know either but he'd better like it! (or is it "you'd better make sure he's likes it" I can't remember!)
Anyway, once John got his first laugh he was sold on jokes. I found out that as soon as he got to church on Sunday he began telling his Sunday school teacher his jokes. His biggest problem is that he needs more material. I think I see a joke book in John's future....

So I went and got my haircut...
I don't really look like I need a haircut, do I? Well, on my behalf, it had grown some since that picture--my hair grows really fast. Anyway, we headed to my favorite salon this morning--the Cost Cutters at Walmart. Whenever we move I try out the different Cost Cutters to find one that consistently has good hairdresser. They are fairly cheap and I never have to worry about making an appointment. So I arrive this morning and get signed and notice that there is a new gal. I really wasn't too worried. She calls my name, I tell her what I want and she takes me back to wash my hair (I splurged!). I normally look forward to getting my hair washed, but today it was a torturing experience. I'm sure my hair is clean, but my scalp still hurts. She mentioned that she did eyebrows and since I hadn't had mine done in awhile and I was going to get my picture taken I went for it. Obviously I also had a short memory and forgot the kind of pain she had caused me when she washed my hair. Again, my eyebrows turned out great but wow! did it hurt. She asked me if it hurt too bad at one point, but I never know how to answer that. Isn't it suppose to hurt when you put hot wax on your tender, fair eye skin and then rip out the hair. I was a little nervous at this point. The eyebrows looked good but were mightly thin. It turns out my concern was not for nothing. When she started on my hair I knew we might have a problem. But what do you say when she says--how's that look? Once it's gone it's not like you can put it back on. So here's the after with my handsome hubby
I'm not sure the picture does it justice--it is short. And you have to realize that it is a "stacked bob" style. So the back is shorter than the front. She had to take an electric razor to the back of my neck. Yeah, that is short. My poor neck has been cold all day. The kids keep asking me why I am wearing a scarf in the house. But, on the upside, my hair grows fast, I won't have to get my haircut for 3 months (that will save money!) and my husband likes it. Actually, it is kind of growing on me as well...
...completely unrelated--I finally got blogger to upload my pictures on my computer! I wish I could say I used all my intellectual powers to fix it, but nope. It just started working again for some reason. So you can look forward to more pics to come...
